What are Vitamins?
Vitamins are a group of substances essential for normal cell function, growth and development. Most of the vitamins you need come from the foods you eat, except Vitamin D, which the body makes.
There are 13 essential vitamins needed for the body to function:
Vitamins A,C, D, E, K, B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B6, B12, Pantothenic Acid, Biotin and Folate (folic acid)
Soluble vs. Fat Soluble Vitamins
Vitamins are grouped into two categories by the materials that a vitamin will dissolve in. Water-soluble vitamins are not stored in the body and must be used right away. They are eliminated in urine so a continuous supply is needed. Fat-soluble vitamins are stored in the body's fatty tissue so you don't need them everyday. If you receive too much of a fat-soluble vitamin, it can be stored in the liver and potentially cause problems.
Vitamin Sources
It is important to know where your vitamins come from and what additives they may include. Many vitamins found in drug and grocery stores have fillers and are not easily absorbed by the body. Our Chiropractors only work with reputable companies and manufacturers to offer the best vitamins. Talk to them about which vitamins are right for you.
